Glory Academy Shines at the 2nd African Shenmo Abacus Mental Math Olympiad 2025

Glory Academy proudly participated in the Second African Shenmo Abacus Mental Math Olympiad 2025, which brought together participants from 30 countries across the continent. The competition was organized by the Shenmo International Group and hosted by Shenmo Rwanda in Kigali under the inspiring theme, “Empowering Young Minds, Realizing Africa’s Dream.”

Shenmo Education promotes a traditional Chinese method of performing calculations mentally through the use of the Abacus tool. This method enables learners to perform arithmetic operations with speed and accuracy by visualizing the Abacus in their minds, a process known as Mental Math. Beyond improving mathematical ability, Abacus training enhances concentration, focus, and problem-solving skills. It also builds confidence and helps children overcome the fear of mathematics, making them more engaged and active both in class and during competitions.

The African Shenmo Abacus Mental Math Olympiad aims to showcase the transformative impact of Abacus education among African children. It provides a platform for young learners to demonstrate their skills, share experiences, and inspire others to believe that mental calculation is achievable with practice and determination. The competition also seeks to abolish fear and anxiety surrounding mathematics, encouraging learners to embrace the subject with enthusiasm and confidence.

Glory Academy was well represented by a dedicated team of learners who displayed great talent, discipline, and enthusiasm throughout the event. Representatives include, Ineza Zulfa (P4), Ruziga Gwiza Diella (P4), Ngangi Ethan (P5), Irakoze Kunda Ava Eunice (P5), Rutayisire David (P5B), Isimbi Kagimba Favor (P5), Ganza Gaju Kimberly (P5), Kalisa Kami Shammah (P5), Byiringiro Ganza Prince (P5), and Mutunda Mueni Angela (P5).

The competition provided learners with a memorable opportunity to interact with peers from different countries, exchange ideas, and build lasting friendships. More importantly, it strengthened their belief in their own potential and reminded everyone that mathematics can be both fun and empowering. Glory Academy won bronze and silver medals and commends all the participants for their outstanding effort, courage, and dedication. Their performance reflects the school’s commitment to nurturing well rounded learners who approach challenges with confidence and curiosity.

Indeed, as the theme beautifully expressed, “Empowering young minds, Realizing Africa’s dream,” Glory Academy learners continue to embody this vision and inspire others to do the same.
