Glory Academy welcomes legendary artist Mariya Yohana: a celebration of culture, patriotism, and empowerment

On 30th April, 2025 Glory Academy had the immense honor of receiving one of Rwanda’s most treasured cultural icon Mariya Yohana whose contributions to patriotic and cultural music have long served as a beacon of inspiration across generations. “Her visit marked a special occasion for our institution, particularly for members of the Iminyana n’Ikotaniro club, a student group devoted to cultural education, traditional values, and youth empowerment” said Mr. Musinga Fred, the Glory Academy Principal. 

Mariya Yohana is widely known for her deeply moving songs that honor Rwanda’s history, resilience, and national pride. Her legacy in the arts is not only a source of national pride but also a living classroom for values such as unity, patriotism, and the preservation of cultural heritage. Her presence on the campus was more than just a visit, it was a living lesson, an encounter with history, and a celebration of identity.

During her time at Glory Academy, Mariya Yohana engaged with students in an interactive session that included song performances, storytelling, and open dialogue. The atmosphere was electric with admiration and excitement as students especially young girls listened intently to her journey, her challenges, and her victories. She encouraged them to believe in their dreams, respect their roots, and use their talents to contribute to society.

The Coordinator of Iminyana n’Ikotaniro club  Gasarasi Roxane said that having a chance to interact with people like Mariya Yohana helps them to deeply understand the importance Rwanda culture, Traditional values and patriotism in additional to values gained from the school.
